The Infamous Resolution (Three Word Wednesday: Demolish / Resolution / Transform)

The Infamous Resolution

Every year we intend to make that New Year's resolution that we'll keep, in the hope that it will transform ourselves from being the person we were the year before.  But, do we ever really make a realistic resolution that we can keep for the next 365 days, or has making a resolution become more of a "routine" for the sake of something to do on the first day of the New Year.  This year it is time to demolish this annual tradition of "wants"; it is time for each of us to learn to be happy with our lives and who we are, and change the things that need to be changed as and when they arise.

Three Word Wednesday: Immobile/Proximity/Retribution

Rick stood in silence, completely immobile, in the state of shock.  "Did this really happen?  Did I really go through with it?" he thought to himself.  He looked down and saw a gun lying on the ground beside him.  He heard screaming but couldn't grasp what was going on.

20 minutes earlier:

"All rise.  Justice Heenan presiding."

Everyone in court room A stood, in anticipation.  Anticipation of hearing the verdict in what had become one of the most sensationalised cases of the decade.

"Please be seated.  Madame Foreman has the jury reached a unanimous verdict?"

"Yes your honour, we have."

"And how does the jury find the defendant?"

"We, the jury, find the defendant Mr. Julius Spock not guilty of the first degree murder of Joanne Melanie Walsh."

Rick stood in silence as the spectators reacted to the verdict.  After the judge demanded order, Rick slipped out of the court room and jogged to his emerald green BMW that was parked in the visitor's parking lot to the west of the court house.  He unlocked the trunk and picked up a neatly folded woollen red blanket.  Rick cautiously unwrapped the blanket for inside was his .25 calibre gun, which, under normal circumstances, would be kept at home in the safe.  Rick threw the blanket back in the trunk of his car and closed the door, then lifted his shirt and placed the gun in the back of his jeans.

Stealthily, Rick made his way back to the front of the court house.  He waited.  A few moments later a slew of people began to flow out of the big oak doors, all chattering about the not guilty verdict.  Then there he was, Julius Spock looking smug as always, coming out of the court house alongside his lawyer.

Rick started walking towards Julius.  When he was within a decent proximity of Julius, Rick took out his gun and fired.

Screams erupted.  Julius crumpled to the ground, blood flowing out of his forehead, eyes wide open.  Then there was the sound of metal on cement.  Rick's gun slipped out of his hand and landed on the ground.

Rick stood in silence, completely immobile, in the state of shock.  "Did this really happen?  Did I really go through with it?" he thought to himself.  "Joanne, my beautiful daughter, this is retribution for your heinous, senseless murder.  May you now rest in peace."

Today's Writing Prompt:  Question
What stupid question have heard someone ask (or asked yourself)?

*****

We received a text from my husband's mom, while she was on a cruise saying that her email box is full.  We suggested she delete some emails the next time she checks her account at the internet cafe on board, to which she responded with the following question:  "How am I suppose to delete my emails from our account on board when our computer at home is turned off?"

3 Word Wednesday - Behave/Jettison/Mob

The Night Sky

Jesse, just having been tucked into bed, thought he saw a flash of lights coming in through his bedroom window.  He jumped out of bed and ran to take a look at what it may have been.

"Mommy! Daddy!  Come quick, come quick, there's something in the sky!"  Jesse was now hopping up and down with excitment.  "Hurry! Hurry!" he cried.

"Jesse, you are supposed to be in bed.  Now why are you hopping around in front of your window?!  This is not how you are supposed to behave at bed time you know."

"I know mommy, but come look!  I saw lights flash on the wall after I was tucked in and got up to have a look outside to see what it was."

Kate and John approach the window, somewhat sceptical.  They look out at the night sky and see green lights which appeared to be glowing bigger with each second that passed.

"What is it mom and dad?"  Jesse asks while looking in awe.

"I don't know Jesse", they replied in unison.

Kate, managed to take her eyes of the green glow of the lights and noticed that many of the neightbours were now walking into the street to get a better look at the phenomenon in the sky.   The lights grew bigger and brighter and soon stopped above the trees.  We were able to make out a round shape of the craft from which the lights came.

What appeared to be a door opened on the craft, and the silouette of a being could be seen standing there.  It looked as if it was going to jettison something from the craft.  And then there it was, a white light floating down from the craft light a birds feather.

Then door closed and just as quickly as the craft arrived, it was gone.

The neighbours ran towards the treed area where the white light was dropped, like a crazy mob on Black Friday at Wal-Mart.

Three Word Wednesday: Hollow / Shallow / Misery

Alice, with a tear stained face, sat in disbelief.  She could not believe how hollow she was feeling.  It was only a few hours ago that she received news that her missing cat was found dead in a shallow ravine behind her house.
The day before, Munchin, Alice's cat made a run for it as she was bringing in the groceries.  Given Munchin did this quite often and would return home as dusk approaches, however that was not the case this cold autumn day.
Alice went about putting the groceries away, keeping an eye on the sliding glass door for Munchin to show up wanting back in.  She began cooking dinner, good old spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread, when her husband came in the door after a day's work.  "Hi honey, dinner smells great!" Brent said.  Alice made her way to the front hall to great Brent with a warm hug and kiss, "well thank you, won't be long now before it's ready.  Oh, by the way Munchin made a run for it again as I was bringing in the groceries."
"That Munchin, what a cat eh!  Well I guess we should expect him home any time soon then, it's already past dusk."
Brent and Alice had dinner, did the washing up and were now sitting on the couch watching Bones
"Brent, Munchin still hasn't come back, I'm getting worried."
"I know, it's very strange for him to be gone this long.  I'll get my jacket on and take a look around outside and see if I can find him." Brent grabbed a flashlight and looked around their property calling out for Munchin, but there was no sign of their beloved cat.
The next morning, the doorbell rang.  Brent was in the shower and Alice was brewing the coffee.  "Who could that be at 7am?" mumbled Alice, still trying to wake up from a terrible nights sleep.  She walked to the front door and looked through the peephole, it was Mr. Blackburn their retired next door neighbour.
"Mr. Blackburn, good morning, is everything alright?"
"Alice, good morning, may I come in?"
"Ah sure, please do."
"I'm not sure how to say this......um....well, I was taking Rocco out for his morning walk, and while we were heading towards the field behind our homes, we came across Munchin."
"Oh my goodness, you found Munchin!  Where is he? Is he okay?" Alice exclaimed.
"Alice, you may want to sit down..."  Alice moved to the living room, just off the front hall entrance and sat on the couch, now feeling nervous.  "What's wrong?" she said, hardly believing it was her own voice asking the question.
"Alice, we found Munchin, but he's, there's no easy way to say this.  Well, he's been attacked.  I'm sorry Alice, but Munchin is dead."
Alice all of a sudden felt numb, surely this isn't happening.
"Honey, who was that at the door, I thought I heard the doorbell."  Brent was coming downstairs and saw Mr. Blackburn standing in the doorway to the living room.
"Good morning Mr. Blackburn.  How are you?"  Then Brent saw Alice sitting on the couch, tears now streaming down her face, he went and sat next to her, hugging her.  "What's happened?  Alice, what's wrong?  Mr. Blackburn what's going on?"
Alice was now sobbing, Mr. Blackburn felt terrible to have brought her this news and told Brent what happened.  "Well I'll be heading off now, if you need anything, let me know."
"Thanks Mr. Blackburn", was all Brent could manage.  He too was now shocked to learn that their little Munchin had passed.  He sat hugging Alice, both of them drowning in each other's misery.

Ode to Aslan (April 2006 - November 15, 2011)

Aslan,
Our gray and white tabby;
Who loved to hiss when he was crabby;
Ever so independent and savvy;
Taken from this world too early.

We loved you when you were cranky;
We loved you when you were sweet;
We love you still, may you rest in peace.
