Three Word Wednesday: Immobile/Proximity/Retribution

Rick stood in silence, completely immobile, in the state of shock.  "Did this really happen?  Did I really go through with it?" he thought to himself.  He looked down and saw a gun lying on the ground beside him.  He heard screaming but couldn't grasp what was going on.

20 minutes earlier:

"All rise.  Justice Heenan presiding."

Everyone in court room A stood, in anticipation.  Anticipation of hearing the verdict in what had become one of the most sensationalised cases of the decade.

"Please be seated.  Madame Foreman has the jury reached a unanimous verdict?"

"Yes your honour, we have."

"And how does the jury find the defendant?"

"We, the jury, find the defendant Mr. Julius Spock not guilty of the first degree murder of Joanne Melanie Walsh."

Rick stood in silence as the spectators reacted to the verdict.  After the judge demanded order, Rick slipped out of the court room and jogged to his emerald green BMW that was parked in the visitor's parking lot to the west of the court house.  He unlocked the trunk and picked up a neatly folded woollen red blanket.  Rick cautiously unwrapped the blanket for inside was his .25 calibre gun, which, under normal circumstances, would be kept at home in the safe.  Rick threw the blanket back in the trunk of his car and closed the door, then lifted his shirt and placed the gun in the back of his jeans.

Stealthily, Rick made his way back to the front of the court house.  He waited.  A few moments later a slew of people began to flow out of the big oak doors, all chattering about the not guilty verdict.  Then there he was, Julius Spock looking smug as always, coming out of the court house alongside his lawyer.

Rick started walking towards Julius.  When he was within a decent proximity of Julius, Rick took out his gun and fired.

Screams erupted.  Julius crumpled to the ground, blood flowing out of his forehead, eyes wide open.  Then there was the sound of metal on cement.  Rick's gun slipped out of his hand and landed on the ground.

Rick stood in silence, completely immobile, in the state of shock.  "Did this really happen?  Did I really go through with it?" he thought to himself.  "Joanne, my beautiful daughter, this is retribution for your heinous, senseless murder.  May you now rest in peace."
